Christopher Carberry

Biography

Christopher Carberry was a member of B Company in the 3rd Dublin Battalion of the Irish Volunteers and fought in Boland’s Mill and Grand Canal Street during the Easter Rising. He was interned until December and renewed his involvement with the Volunteers upon his release. He worked as an intelligence officer in the IRA during the War of Independence. Captured by the Auxiliary Division of the RIC in February 1921, Carberry was interned in Dublin Castle and Mountjoy prison until August and spent a further four months in hospital as a result of his treatment whilst incarcerated. He joined the National Army during the Civil War and took up a position in the Reserve following the end of the conflict.
