Michael Joseph Lynch was a member of B Company in the 4th Dublin Battalion of the Irish Volunteers. He was based in the South Dublin Union during the Easter Rising and was afterwards interned in Knutsford jail and Frongoch prison camp until December 1916. He renewed his involvement with the Volunteers upon his release, becoming Captain of B Company in the 4th Battalion before being appointed Commandant of the 5th Battalion. He was later made Commandant of the Fingal Brigade and was also heavily involved in the munitions works on Parnell Street during the War of Independence.
