Michael F. Lynch

Biography

A step-brother of prominent IRB member Diarmuid Lynch, Michael F. Lynch was centre of the IRB circle based in the Tracton and Kinsale area of Co. Cork. He helped to establish the Irish Volunteers in Tracton in 1914 and transported arms, ammunition, explosives and despatches aboard his motorcycle before and during Easter Week, 1916, but did not participate in any fighting. He was nevertheless arrested on 5th May and interned in Frongoch prison camp. He became Battalion Commandant in the No. 1 Cork Brigade in 1918 but was dismissed a year later for taking part in a hunt after a ban had been imposed by the Sinn Féin Executive.
