Patrick Fogarty

Biography

Patrick Fogarty was a member of B Company in the 1st Dublin Battalion of the Irish Volunteers. After mobilising in Cabra on Easter Monday, 1916, Fogarty joined the Four Courts garrison along with his brother John. Originally sentenced to death, his sentence was commuted to three years penal servitude and he was interned until June 1917. He served in the War of Independence until in April 1920 when, whilst stationed outside Mountjoy prison on behalf of the IRA, he contracted pneumonia and died.
