Frank Neacy

Biography

Frank Neacy (also spelt Necy) joined the Irish Volunteers in Dundalk in January 1914, with whom he mobilised at the beginning of Easter week, 1916. He was part of an abortive attempt to launch a motorboat from Louth to Dublin, which he anticipated as the “first naval expedition of the Irish Republic”. He was arrested and sent to Knutsford Prison in early June before being interned in Frongoch prison camp. Neacy subsequently went on to become editor of the Dundalk Democrat.
