A founding member of the Irish Volunteers, Liam O’Flaherty was attached to B Company in the 4th Battalion in the Dublin Brigade. He was based in the vicinity of the South Dublin Union during the Easter Rising, taking up a position in McCaffrey’s Orchard at the beginning of the week before later occupying a nearby hospital ward. He was deported to Knutsford Prison and was afterwards interned in Wormwood Scrubbs and Frongoch prison camp until Christmas 1916. O’Flaherty remained active in the Irish Volunteers, renewing his involvement with B Company upon his release.
