A member of E Company in the 1st Dublin Battalion of the Irish Volunteers, William Browne was based in Boland’s Mills at the beginning of the Easter Rising. He subsequently moved to the offices of the Dublin and South Eastern Railway, where he was wounded and captured. After being placed in Dublin Castle Hospital, he was interned in Frongoch prison camp.
