A clerk in the High Court, Eamonn “Bob” Price was active in both the Gaelic League and the IRB. He was Captain of G Company in the 2nd Dublin Battalion of the Irish Volunteers and spent the Easter Rising in Jacob’s Biscuit factory, where he met Máire Nic Shiubhlaigh, his future wife. Interned in Knutsford Prison and Frongoch prison camp until December 1916, Price helped to reorganise the Irish Volunteers in Leinster following his release and was later appointed to the General Headquarters’ staff of the IRA. He rose to the position of Director of Organisation in the IRA during the War of Independence and became Major-General in the National Army during the Civil War.
