Patrick Tuohy

Biography

A private in the Irish Citizen Army, Patrick Tuohy pushed a cart of arms and ammunition from Liberty Hall to the GPO on Easter Monday, 1916. He occupied Delahunty’s Pub on Fleet Street later that evening before being posted to the Imperial Hotel the following day. Tuohy was captured on Thursday morning whilst attempting to escape from the flaming building. He was interned in Stafford Jail and Frongoch prison camp until August 1916 and joined the 5th Battalion Engineers upon his release. He took up a position with republican forces in Moran’s Hotel at the beginning of the Civil War and evaded capture for the rest of the conflict.
