Thomas Bevan

Biography

Thomas Bevan was a member of C Company in the 1st Dublin Battalion of the Irish Volunteers. He fought in the Easter Rising, joining his brothers Charles and James in the Four Courts garrison on Easter Tuesday, 25th April. Stationed in the library, he was also involved in taking Lord Dunsany captive. He received a death sentence, which was commuted to penal servitude. Released from internment in June 1917, he was at the bedside of Thomas Ashe during his hunger strike and ended his involvement with the Irish republican movement upon Ashe’s death, instead becoming an opera singer with the O’Mara Opera Company.
