William Hussey

Biography

William Hussey was a member of the Clarinbridge Company in the Galway Brigade of the Irish Volunteers. He fought in Galway during the Easter Rising, taking part in operations in Clarinbridge, Oramore and Moyode, amongst other locations. He was interned until June 1917 and rejoined the Volunteer movement following his release. Hussey participated in the War of Independence but was once again interned in November 1920 and spent over a year in detention. He fought with the anti-Treaty side during the Civil War and took part in the burning of Kilcolgan Barracks, amongst other acts of destruction and sabotage.
